Ralph Lauren Automotive Watch

Ralph Lauren Automotive Watch

When you're one of the world's most recognizable designers and you need a watch to match your car, what is there to do other than make one yourself? That seems to be the story behind the Ralph Lauren Automotive Watch ($13,400), which the purple one styled after his prized 1938 Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic, which means an elm burl ring to match the dash, a galvanized matte black dial with white numbers that recall the gauges, visible screws to match the car's rivets, and a prohibitively high price to ensure you won't see one on the wrist of a Chevette connoisseur.

Revolutio Watch by Mickael Chrost

Revolutio Watch by Mickael Chros

Designer Mickaël Chros reexamines the way we tell time with the Revolutio Watch. “Minutes and hours are displayed on Revolutio’s rotating rings and are powered by a standard watch engine. The magnetic locking system is perfectly discreet. I’m really digging the center-less design- the loop, versus the standard circle, is an interpretation of eternity and reminds that time has no real beginning or end.” No word on availability.

HD3 Slyde

HD3 Slyde

Designed by Jorg Hysek, the new HD3 Slyde is an LCD touchscreen watch that is on the radar of many techies and watch fans alike. The slated release for this Swiss timepiece is September of this year, and I'm hoping that it's a firm date. No official pricing has yet been released however in speaking with Jorg he's expecting a starting price (hinting there will be more than one version) of between 3500 and 3900 euros. Watch out for it at BaselWorld 2011. Oh and this one looks like a must for a techie! See you in September Slyde.

Phosphor World Time Curved E Ink Watch

I think I need one of these...how can a world traveler not need this? Polyurethane Band for those athletic days.

A little company by the name of Art Technology has been delivering mass-market wearables using the technology since 2007 -- and its latest model dials up the functionality factor just a smidge by adding support for twenty-four time zones, two of which can be displayed simultaneously. Granted, it's using a segmented display, not dot matrix -- which means it bears a closer resemblance to that Timex you owned in the late '80s than Seiko's wild active matrix model -- but again, like we said, this one's actually quite affordable and it's available right this second ($150-$195).
