Lisa Eisner for Oliver Peoples: Devendra Banhart's Love-In

This short film was created by Lisa Eisner for Oliver Peoples and features folk musician Devandra Banhart. Again working with his real life partner Rebecca Schwartz, Banhart and his girlfriend are captured at their most intimate. Eisner sought to cast a genuine couple in homage to French New Wave classics like Godard’s Une Femme Mariée which were able to elicit chemistry unparalleled by actors. The film was shot in architect John Lautner’s 1961 Los Angeles creation, the Rainbow House, to the sounds of Banhart’s “Brindo” from 2009′s What Will We Be. Of course we shouldn’t forget the elegant selection of eyewear on show, courtesy of Oliver People’s latest collection.

Imaginary Foundation “The Undivided Mind” Exhibition

I was thinking about going to San Fran just cuz but now I have a reason.

The right side of the brain is responsible for emotions and intuition, the left for logic and reason. Yet the notion of two brains gives rise to the function of one mind. Perhaps it is this one “undivided mind” that presents a way forward through the monumental cultural changes we now face, enabling us to surf this dynamic moment in history from a platform of balance and symmetry. This installation from Imaginary Foundation endeavors to fuse the aesthetic beauty of art and science in order to create a synthesis of mind, one which is as much rational as it is fantastic. In addition, the brand will open a pop-up store for the event, running from November 20th through November 28th, with the show opening Friday, November 19th, 2010. Further information on the show is available here.

Jason Alper “Proletarian Drift And The Enfrachisement Of The Burgeoisie” Exhibition

Jason Alper "Proletarian Drift And The Enfrachisement Of The Burgeoisie" Exhibition

Artist, costume designer and co-creator of Borat, Ali G and Bruno, Jason Alper, presents new works on oil for his exhibition “Proletarian Drift and the Enfrachisement of the Burgoisie” at Guy Hepner Gallery.
“Irreverent self-confessed “rookie” artist Jason Alper is at it again—only this time, he’s taking on Da Vinci. “Proletarian Drift and the Enfranchisement of the Bourgeoisie in the 21st Century” features eight new oils in which Alper—co-creator of the Ali G, Borat and Bruno characters with Sacha Baron Cohen—superimposes one of the best-known logos of our time on some of the best-known artworks on the planet. Picture a Louis Vuitton-branded tablecloth adorning Leonardo Da Vinci’s “The Last Supper”, for example. Alper’s wry fusion of contemporary and classic icons explores notions of familiarity, over-exposure, and authorship, served up with the fearless humor that has characterized his work as a costume designer (who could forget Borat’s neon mankini?).”
Take a further look at his new works after the jump.

Jeff Koons' BMW Art Car

BMW has pulled the sheet off the Jeff Koons art car and we have to say we like it. A lot.
Koons has wanted to design an art car since 2003, when he first approached BMW about the idea. BMW gave him the nod earlier this year, and the car was unveiled Tuesday at Centre Pompidou in Paris, the same place where Lichtenstein unveiled his art car in 1977.

Mel Ramos: 50 Years of Pop Art

If you don't know you've now been educated.

“There’s nothing else in this crazy world/except for cars and girls,” sang New York punk band the Dictators on the 1975 album Go Girl Crazy. This lyric could also be the mantra for painter Mel Ramos, who is known for his depictions of streamlined female figures in pop-bright settings.
